Biography

Jane Thompson LEISHMAN was born in 1890 in Colac, Colony of Victoria[1]. She was the daughter of John Leishman and Margaret Gorman.

John Ellerslie NEWTON and Jean Thompson LEISHMAN were married on 28 July 1915 in Kingston, Victoria, Australia[2].

Newton—Leishman.—The marriage of Mr John E. Newton, of Coghill's Creek, eldest son of Mr and Mrs. J. Newton, "Oak Vale," Kingston, to Miss Jean T. Leishman, only daughter of Mrs M. and the late J. M. Leishman, of Cororooke and Geelong, was quietly celebrated at the residence of the bride's mother, "Summerfield," Kingston, on 28th July, by the Rev. C. Robinson. The bride wore a pretty gown of white crepe-de-chene, with the usual wreath and veil, and carried a shower bouquet. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Jessie Lang, of Cororooke, and Miss Jean Newton, sister of the bridegroom. They both wore frocks of soft white silk, and carried bouquets. The best man was Mr Stuart Newton, brother of the bridegroom, and the groomsman Mr J. Newton, cousin of the bridegroom. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a diamond brooch, and the bride's gift to the bridegroom a travelling rug. The bridegroom's presents to the bridesmaids were—the first, silver chain bag; second, pearl brooch. The bride travelled in a brown cloth coat and skirt and smart hat. Many useful and valuable presents were received from friends.

She passed away on 24 November 1952 in Parkville, Victoria, Australia[4]
