Biography
Elliott Lees 1st Bt is Notable.
Sir Elliott Lees Bart., M.A., J.P., D.S.O., was born in 1860.[1] He was the eldest son of Thomas Evans Lees, manufacturer, and his wife Bernarda Maria Elisa Turnbull . He was christened on 28 Nov 1860 in Oldham, Lancashire, England.[2]
He married Florence Keith, daughter of Patrick Keith, on 26 Jul 1882 in Kensington, Middlesex, England [3]
Their known children included:
- Florence Mary Bernarda Lees born about 1885 and married James William Best in 1914.[4]
- John Victor Elliott Lees, christened on 17 Jan 1888 in Wimborne Minster, Dorset, England.[5]
- Gracia Katharine Hope Lees, christened in Lytchett Minster, Dorset, England on 9 Feb 1890.[6]
- Bernard Percy Turnbull Lees christened on 4 Oct 1891 in Lytchett Minster.[7]
- Eleanor Juliet Anne Lees, christened on 26 Jul 1894 in Lytchett Minster.[8] married Eustace Howard Marsden in 1919.[9]
- Margaret Alfreda Lees christened on 8 Sep 1903 in Lytchett Minster.[10]
He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He served in South Africa and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He was also Member of Parliament for Birkenhead, Lancashire. He lived in Dorset but also had a residence in Lancashire. He owned three or four thousand acres of land in Dorset, where he served as a J.P., a captain of the Yeomanry, and a divisional councillor for East Dorset Primrose League. For one season he was also a master of the hunt (South Dorset Foxhounds).[11][12]
He passed away in 1908 and is buried in Lytchett Minster Parish Churchyard, Lytchett Minster, Purbeck District, Dorset, England [13]
