Biography
I was born on February 27, 1989 at St Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York, on a Monday (This is probably where my hatred for Monday's began to be honest), to Gregory Larkin born in Troy, New York and Kimberly Rafferty who was born in Albany, New York. I am the younger sister of Jaime Larkin and the older sister of Dylan Larkin. Surprisingly I wasn't born during a blizzard but I'm almost certain there was at least some snow on the ground. From what I was told multiple times by my mother who was already in the hospital with pneumonia, and my father who took the entire week off from Freihofer's Bakery, it was a very interesting time that involved a lot of back and forth between my grandparent's house (where I'm sure my older sister was less than enthused that her only child standing was about expire), and the hospital.
My parents raised my siblings and I in Guilderland, New York a typical suburban town in Upstate New York just outside of Albany. The three of us attended Guilderland Schools, I graduated from Guilderland High School in 2007, and attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York where I obtained an AAS in Criminal Justice in 2009. I then transferred to State University at New York Albany where I obtained a BA in Criminal Justice and Psychology in 2012.
I got into genealogy after becoming interested in my paternal grandfather's family, since I was only two when he passed away suddenly I have no recollection of him, whatever I knew about that side of the family was limited to information my paternal grandmother had gotten from my grandfather's older sister who by the point my grandfather had passed was getting older and her mind was starting to go.
Whatever my grandfather knew when he was still alive was minimal since his father died when he was seventeen. I knew that the majority if not all of my grandfather's side of the family were buried out of the Purcell Funeral Home in Troy, New York since the wife of Daniel Purcell was the sister of my paternal great grandmother, or Parker Brothers in Watervilet, New York because some of them lived there too.
I knew that his side was obviously Irish and that my great grandmother was born in Canada, but beyond that I had no idea. When I got to college, I would go to my grandmother's after I got out of class and hang out there where we would talk about this. All she kept saying was that the Black family in Canada which was on my paternal great grandmother's side had money, but a Protestant married a Catholic and we never saw the money.
As I was getting into my grandfather's side of the family, my grandmother was getting more interested in hers , since her cousin Boyd had been looking into his paternal line which was her maternal line, The Allendorphs for quite a while. She didn't know much about her side of the family, all she knew was that she swore she was Dutch (She wasn't she was German), Her maternal grandmother had a hotel in Asbury Park, New Jersey where a cousin named Polly embezzled money from (Still haven't found her).
Prior to her passing in November of 2019 which was a huge blow to me since she was quite possibly my best friend, I was granted access to the family tree Boyd made for the Allendorphs, I never got the opportunity to talk to Boyd, since he passed before we could set up a time to go talk to him. My grandmother also gave me multiple pieces of information about her paternal grandmother Ada's family.

Have you ever considered participating in one of WikiTree's Connect-A-Thons? It's a great opportunity to add new profiles, whether they are extended family members or someone who fits into of one of your projects. The next one will run from Friday, April 22nd to Monday, April 25th.
If you are interested in participating, you can sign up in the G2G forum registration post at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1392037/have-you-registered-for-the-april-2022-connect-a-thon-yet?show=1395381#c1395381 and add another badge to your collection. They ask you to join a team, so I invite you to join the Mid-Atlantic Team since I notice you have roots in New York. You are not limited to adding profiles for only this region, of course. Like you, most of us have roots in many other regions and countries. Hope you'll consider joining the fun!
Thanks for all your work on WikiTree. I noticed that you have begun adding profiles for the pre-1700 ancestors you have found in your search. Congratulations on finding records back that far!
Since you are now back in the time period where many people can be descended from those ancestors, we need more details in your source area. As collaborative genealogists, we need to tell each other our sources so that we can work together to assess the relative reliability of the source and the evidence it contains.
The Germany Project's resources page has information about what is reliable and suggestions for finding them. Please review that page, then find reliable sources for the pre-1700 profiles that you have already created and for new profiles before you create them. If you would like help, consider asking in the Genealogist to Genealogist (G2G) forum.
Thanks,
Debi
Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention those profiles need.
Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!
