George was born in 1759. He passed away in 1824.
George was a miller for most of his life, running a sawmill, gristmill, and a tavern. He is also said to have built the "Kohl Hotel" in 1815, later known as the "Angelica Hotel" which still stands today in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It should be mentioned here that George owned two taverns. The one, in what is now called Angelica, and the other in what would later become the town of Gouglersvile. The latter was referred to as the Seven Mile house and later owned by his son William Kohl. The purchase of the sawmill and gristmill property is one of the most predominant pieces of land owned by George. This sawmill, gristmill, and tavern were owned by the Kohl family until 1857 when Simon Kohl sold it to Samuel and Isaac Schonour, who then sold it to Amos Yost in 1859. George had bought the sawmill and gristmill from the estate of John Zerbe. George died intestate. His estimated estate amounted to $8,866, including eleven tracts of land. The total estate was $15,169, with buildings, etc., was distributed to his eight living children. [1]
