Biography

Robert was born 3 Jul 1817 in Muthill, Perthshire, and baptised on the 12 Jul 1817. Family residence was Langside, Glenlichorn.

The 1841 Scotland census shows Robert and his elder brother James, both Agricultural Labourers at Langside, Muthill.

The Scotland census of 1851 shows Robert residing with his father, James at Langside, Muthill. Also present were his nieces Mary and Catherine King, daughters of brother Duncan, all of whom emigrated to Australia in 1854.

On 24 Jul 1853, Robert married Catherine McEwen in Muthill, Perthshire.

The 1861 Scotland census records Robert as a 'Hill Farmer' living with wife Catherine at Langside, Parish Ardoch. Also present is Robert's father James and four children, Mary Anne, Duncan, Robert and John.

^[1] He passed away in 1897 in New Zealand, and was buried at the Woodland Cemetery, Southland.
