Gary was born in 1942 to Joseph M. Kildall and Emma V. Gustavson.
He is credited with being among the first to see that microprocessors could be useful in general-purpose computers, as opposed to as controllers for dedicated devices. He is best know for developing the CP/M operating system, but made a wide range of contributions in computer software.
Gary (20) married Dorothy G McEwen (19) on 21 July 1962 in King county, Washington, United States.[1]
Gary and his wife and business partner Dorothy McEwen ran the company Digital Research from a home in Pacific Grove, California. A commemorative plaque now marks the private home at 801 Lighthouse Avenue.[2]
A good starting point among this many articles about his technical legacy is from the Computer History Museum.[3] There is a link to part of a memoir Gary wrote.
Gary died in 1994.[4] Many obituaries are available on line.
