James Doran Kay was born about 1815 in Abbeville, South Carolina, United States, son of Robert H. Kay (~1789–1834) and Armond Shirley (1792–1874).
James married Eliza L. King (born about 1822 in South Carolina) in about 1843. [1] [2]
Their son was Samuel B Kay (1853–1877).
After Eliza's death he married Esther Margaret Craig (1837–1897) in about 1877. [3]
James died on January 10, 1886, in Westminster, Oconee, South Carolina, aged about 70. He is buried in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Westminster, South Carolina. [4]
