Biography

James Allen Kay was born in 1862, possibly at Ealing, Middlesex (London). He was the son of James Allan Kay and Louisa Wills. His birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1862 at Brentford.[1][2][3]

In 1863, as an infant, he emigrated to Canterbury New Zealand, with his parents and 2 elder siblings: John S. and Louisa A. They sailed on the ship Captain Cook, departing on 17 May and arriving on 1 September.[4]

On 30 March 1895, he married Sarah Ann Greening[5][6]

He passed away on 10 May 1902 at Blackball, West Coast, aged 40.[7][3]

Mr D. Macfarlane, Coroner, held an inquest at Spa View Asylum on Monday on the body of James Allen Kay, a patient, The following jury were sworn: Messrs G. W. Morgan (foreman), C. Galway, R. Jolly, S Clarke, T. Aronsen. and J. Foster. The deceased was 41 years of age and after hearing evidence a verdict was returned " that deceased died from general paralysis."[8]
