Torbjørn was a son of Jørgen Torbjørnson Kaasene and Anne Halvorsdotter Kaasene.
Born 13 Feb and christened 23 Feb 1812 in Drangedal parish, Bratsberg county, Norway. [1] At the time his parents lived at a cotter's farm (Norw.: 'husmannsplass') named Kaasene belonging to the Nesland farm in Drangedal.
