Biography

Mary was the eldest child of Elizabeth and Charles and was born 27 May 1847. She was baptised 3 November 1852 by Rev. White in the Presbyterian Church at Whittingham (near Singleton) in the Hunter Valley.

It appears that Mary married George Moy in Muswellbrook in 1863 and with him had two sons and two daughters. They seem to have moved to Quirindi at some point as that is where George died in 1876.

Mary then married Amos Lucas in Tamworth the following year. Mary and Amos had a further 6 children together around Tamworth and Manilla.

In 1887 it appears that her eldest daughter Sophia had a daughter (possibly illegitimately as no father's name is on the birth record). The obituary of daughter Lillie in 1941 suggests that the girl may have been raised and understood to be a daughter of Mary Ann and Amos rather than a child of their eldest Sophia.

In 1908 the family purchased a property near Warialda and moved there.

Amos died in 1912 and Mary followed almost 3 years later. They are buried together at Warialda.
