  • Att a Mo meeting held at Edw Mosby’s the 8th of 2 Mo 1722. Wm. Elyson son of G. Robt Elyson and Agnis Johnson daughter of John Johnson did at this meeting publish their intentions of taking each other in Mariage.
  • Att a Mo Meeting held at the home of Ewd Mosby ye 2nd day of ye 4th mo 1722. Wm. Elyson & Agnis Johnson did publish their intentions of taking each other in marriage the second time.
  • Wm. Lead & Robt Crew who were appointed by the last meeting to inspect and make enquiries into Wm. Elyson’s clearness & did at this meeting give their report much of which was to friends satisfaction.
  • The woman’s friends as were appointed to inquire as about sd into Agnis Johnson clearness not being theare Mary Magahe being one of the above women did send word by Samll Magahe which was satisfaction ye Margery Johnson the other not coming, we had no information from her but in as much as the young woman being generally known

by friends to be cleare in relation to marriage and to be in unity of friends this meeting has ----- fot to leave them to their liberty for the accomplishing of their aforesd intentions.

  • Robt Crew and Thomas Pleasants are appointed to attend the marriage of the above named Wm Elyson and Agnis Johnson and to give in -------- therein to the next Mo Meeting whether things were managed according to that good order established among friends.
  • Whereas Wm Elyson son of Gar Robt Elysone of New Kent County and Agnes Johnson daughter of Johnson of Hanover County having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before severall publick meetings of the people called Quakers in Virginia according to the good order held amongst them whose professing therein after a deliberate consideration with regard to the righteous law of God were approved by the Weekly Meeting. They appearing cleare of all other in relation to marriage and having consent of parents and friends consent. Now they are to certify all in whome it may concern that for the full accomplishment of their sd intentions this 5th day this 11th mo 1722 they the sd Wm Elyson and Agnis Johnson appearing in a publick meeting of the aforesd people & others met together on that occasion at the publick meeting hous of the aforesd people and in a solemn manner he the sd Wm Elyson taking the sd Agnis Johnson by the hand did openly declare as followeth In the presence of God and this meeting I take Agnis Johnson to be my wife promising with God’s assistance to be a faithful & loving husband till deth and then and their in the sd meeting the sd Agnis Johnson did in like maner declare as followeth in the presence and God and this meeting I take William Elyson to be my husband promising with God’s assistance to be a faithful and loving wife till deth. And the sd Wm Elyson and Agnis his now wife as a further confirmation thereof did then and their set these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto suffered being present among others at the solemnizing their sd marriage & prescription in manner aforesaid as witness hereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the sd day and year above written. [witnesses listed]

Wm Lead and Robt Crew of Wainoak . Joseph Pleasants and Thos Pleasants for Curles Meeting & John Haris and Thomas Stanley Jnr of Cedar Creek . Joseph Pleasants did at this meeting aleage his inability too select that it makes him incapable of attending this meeting constantly, which as he is clerk hereof required his constant attendance this meeting did thereupon request Thomas Pleasants to a----iate that place and he accepting thereof is by this meeting appointed thereunto Robt Crew and Thomas Pleasants who were appointed in the proceding monthly meeting to ------ the marriage of Wm. Elyson and Agnis Johnson, did at this meeting give their report thereof which was satisfactory.
  • At a Mo Meeting held neare the white oake swamp the 5th of the 12th mo 1725. [brother John's marriage]
