After my marriage in 1969 we drove up through England in a Bedford van filled with all our wordly goods. We went to Stranraer and across to Northern Ireland for Roger to take up a new job at the northern Ireland Agricultural Research Institute in Great Park, Hillsborough.
Both our children were born in the Lagan Valley hospital in Lisburn.
The Governors residence was between where we lived and the hospital and was guarded by men with machine guns in trenches - and the police station which they call the barracks was opposite the hospital and had a road block outside it when I was going in to give birth - people who ran road blocks were liable to get shot at - we indicated right and got into the hospital with out any trouble but a bit scary!
