Biography

James was born in around 1690 in Scotland. There is only speculation concerning his parents, but he was doubtless of Scotch lineage. His ancestors, it is said, were engaged in trade with the colonies, in which he also may have been interested, for there is found in the Diary of Rev. William Homes of Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, the following record : "November 3rd, 1717. John McClellan and James Jamison came to my house . . . this Lords day." And it may have been that his ship was lying at anchor, over Sunday, at Homes Hole, on her way from Scotland to Virginia.

James married Margaret Jennings in around 1716 and they would have three sons:

Thomas Jameson (1718-1768)

James Jameson (1720-1766)

David Jameson (1723-1793)

James Jameson passed away in 1736.
