Biography

Jessie was born in 1869. She is the daughter of Robert Hutton and Maggie Caldwell.

When her father Robert registered her birth he gave the name of her mother as Maggie.

In the 1911 census Jessie and James are at 69 St Vincent Crescent, Anderston, Glasgow.

Her mother Margaret Hutton is with them, age , 60 and is a pastry baker and is employing her son-in-law in the business. (National Records of Scotland - 1911 BOYD, JESSIE (Census 644/11 21/ 25) Page 25 of 27)

Jessie and James have been married 20 years and have seven children, all still living :-

In the 1921 census Jessie and James are at 54 Wellshott Road, Rutherglen, which is where Jessie lived for a further 48 years of her life. Her mother Margaret is still with them, age 75 and retired from pasetry baking. James is sull working as a pastry baker. Four of their children are still with them - David, Elizabeth, Jenny and Mary. Jessie lived a long life, reaching 100 years when she died of cardiovascular degeneration. Her death was registered by her son David Boyd.

The 1940 land vanuation rolls show Jessie as being the proprietrix of 54 Wellshot Drive for which the rateable value was £52 annually. When her mother and husband were Proprietor and occupier respectively in the1920 Valuation the house was given the name"Retpada".
