Ann (Hull) Smith was born in County Durham, England.

Ann Hull was baptised in Redmarshall St. Cuthbert, Durham, on 1 May 1825 and was the daughter of Martin and Margaret Hull.^[1]

Ann married Henry Smith in Chester-le-Street, Durham, on 24 December 1853 and they had two children.^[2][3]

On the 1861 census, Henry, a labourer, and Ann are living at Plawsworth Cottage, Chester-le-Street, with Ann's parents. They have two children: Margaret (6 years) and Henry (3 years).^[4]
