In the 1880 census, Harvey Howell is listed with wife Louisa, age 44, and Hellen, age 9, Virgil, age 6, and Thomas, age 1. Louisa is listed as "keeps house" and Harvey is listed as "minister". Harvey is listed as being born in S.C. and both his parents are as well.
Obituary found as a FindAGrave photo from 1905 reads as follows: "Death of Rev. T. Harvey Howle. Anniston, Dec. 31. -(Special.) - Rev. T. Harvey Howle of Heflin died this morning. He was about 70 years old. He was the father of Virgil Howle, a prominent wholesale grocer of this city. He was a Missionary Baptist preacher and had formerly represented Clay County in the State Legislature. He will be buried tomorrow with Masonic honors at Heflin." He was a Chaplain for Company D of the the 13th Alabama Infantry in the Confederate States Army. His gravestone has a death date of Dec. 30.
Additional obituary published in The Cleburne New Era, and the same publication also contains an excerpt stating that Mrs. T.H. Howle moved to Anniston to live with her son Virgil Howle.
