James was born in Blackrod, Lancashire on 16 March1796 and was christened on 10 April 1796 at St Katharine, Blackrod.[1] He was the son of Henry Hope and Betty Dickinson.
On 6 December 1819 he married Mary Livesey at St Wilfrid, Standish, Lancashire.[2] The couple had two children: John (1822-1891) and Mary (1823-1823).
He passed away in June 1828 and was buried at Holy Trinity, Horwich on 30 June 1828. [3]
