The descendants of Edward and his father Richard and their immediate families are encouraged to keep in contact via the Richard Beale Reynolds extended family Facebook group.
Edward Beale (Hipwell) Reynolds was born on 26 May 1794 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to Richard Beale Reynolds (1769-1837) and Mary Ann (Hipwell) Gosper (1765-1837). His birth was registered under his mother's last name as she was not married to Richard[1][2] although he was christened as Edward Reynolds on 22 Jun 1794 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia[3].
Around 1820 Edward came together with widow Sarah Maria (Singleton) Sibrey whose husband, Thomas Sibrey, had passed away in 1818. Sarah and Thomas had four children three of whom were still alive in 1820. There is no record that Edward and Sarah ever married.
By some accounts there was also a son, Thomas, born in 1827 however this appears to be incorrect. The eldest child of Sarah's eldest daughter by her first marriage, Ann, had a son Thomas in 1827. How he was recorded in the 1828 Census is a little misleading.
Sarah died in 1828 leaving Edward as the sole carer for her then-surviving seven children:
Ann, age 15
Joseph, 11 years
Reuben, about 10
Catharine and Elizabeth, age 7
Sarah, 4 years
Hannah, about 3
Edward died on [4]25 November 1832 in Colo River, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes leaving his four children with Sarah, plus the three surviving step-children of Sarah's with Thomas, as orphans between the ages of 7 and 19.
Research Notes
Despite what is currently stated above and attributed to FamilySearch as a source, there were no civil birth registrations in the Colony of New South Wales until the 1850's. The only records of Edward's birth are his baptismal records and both of those (there are two as they are duplicated records of the same event) only show his last name to be Hipwell.
WikiTree users are cautioned against assigning a date or place of marriage between Edward Beale (Hipwell) Reynolds (1794-1832) and Sarah Maria (Singleton) Sibrey (1795-1828). There is no evidence that they were ever legally married and when Sarah died in 1828 the death was registered in the last name "Sabree", a misspelling of her married name with Thomas Sibrey (abt.1788-1818).
