John Hinde enlisted in the United States Army on January 6, 1941, enlisting in the Coast Guard Auxiliary on January 6, 1941[4] and being admitted into a military hospital for an abscess in the Aleutian islands in January of 1945.[5] He was discharged discharged on November 14, 1945.[6]
John married Mary Matilda (Marshall) Raspante (1925-2000), the daughter of John Symonett Marshall and Jane G. Lopez, marrying in Key West on February 25, 1949 and having five children together.[7] Mary Raspante brought three children to the marriage. In 1950, they lived in Key West, where John worked for the United States Navy as a crane operator.[8] His father-in-law, who had divorced, lived with them in 1950. John Hinde enlisted again, enlisting on May 1, 1951 and being discharged on August 7th of that year.
John Hinde passed away in Homosassa Springs, Florida at the age of 77;[9][10] His remains were cremated.
