Roy Hamner Hildreth was born on 18 March 1907 in Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama, United States.^[1][2][3] He was the son of Edward Homer Hildreth (1874-1965) and Ida Bell (Marsh) Hildreth (1876-1915).

1910 United States Census, Enumeration District 118, Bonifay, Washington County, Florida: The family was recorded as living in the town of Bonifay in Washington County, Florida, but Bonifay is a town actually located in neighboring Holmes County so that was probably the nearest town to them.^[4]

Marriages:

1. He was married first to Mary Eva Smith. They were married at least by 1937, the year their oldest child was born, but an exact date is not yet known. This marriage ended in 1951.^[6]
2. He was married second to Dolly Victoria Holley in 1954 in Santa Rosa County, Florida. (Holley was the surname of her first husband; her maiden name was Aplin.)^[7]

Roy Hamner Hildreth was in the United States Navy and was found on the 1930 and 1940 Census records in Georgia and Pennsylvania, respectively, where he was stationed.^[8] In 1940 his wife Eva and two daughters were enumerated living with Eva's mother Anna E. Smith in Coffee County, Alabama.^[9]

1930 United States Census, Enumeration District 5, Militia District 1104, United States Military Reservation, Chattahoochee, Georgia: Roy H. Hildreth was enumerated with others assigned to the 29th Infantry Barracks.^[10]

1940 United States Census, Enumeration District 51-1565, Ward 39, Philadelphia, Philadelphia City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Roy was living with other Navy personnel in the government barracks on Rowan Avenue. According to the record, he had been living in Santa Rosa, Walton County, Florida in 1935.^[11]

Roy Hamner Hildreth passed away on 15 February 1979 in Milton, Santa Rosa County, Florida. He was 71 years old.^[2][3] He was buried in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama.^[12][13]

Sons and daughters were mentioned in his obituary, but it appears the sons were step-sons--sons of his second wife and her first husband--because their surnames were all Holley. It was not clear from the obituary whether the daughters mentioned are biological children or stepdaughters but based on marriage records which have been found for the daughters, at least three of the women mentioned were his daughters by Mary Eva Smith.^[12] One daughter, Barbara Ann (Hildreth) Ezell, died in 2008 but the other daughters may still be living.
