John's advanced testing has come in. He is not only positive for R1a-YP4248 but his terminal haplogroup is R1a-YP4491, the same as my tribe of Cooleys. In other words, the Higdons and Cooleys share the same paternal ancestor going back an unknown period of time. But the R1a-YP4248 Subclade Project needs confirmation via a simple Y-DNA test from another male Higdon of this line, hopefully from a son other than William. We're willing to pay for it. His Y-STR markers are posted at the Higdon DNA Project at FTDNA.com. They suggest he might have been of the Y-DNA haplogroup R1a-YP4248, a group I manage. The YP4248 marker can be tested for by any eligible men for $18 at YSEQ and at FTDNA for $39 -- although FTDNA needs it to be bundled with another Y product.
