Biography

Helen Henderson was born on 18 April 1819 and baptised on 10 May 1819 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland, the daughter of Richard Henderson and Helen Middlemiss.^[1]

In the 1841 census Helen lived in New Coldstream with her parents and some siblings.^[2]

Helen's age was given as 20, since enumerators were instructed to round all ages above 15 down to the nearest multiple of five. Presumably Helen later moved elsewhere for work and met her future husband there.

Helen married John Wilson on 30 July 1848 at Haddington.^[4] They had two known children:

1. Helen Wilson and
2. Richard Wilson.

As John's second wife she helped to raise the younger children from his first marriage.

In the 1851 census Helen, aged 33, lived at 1 Market Street, Haddington with her husband John, aged 43, and his children from his previous marriage, Mary , William, James and John, as well as their new baby Helen.^[5]
