David's death (age 49) was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1943 in the W.Cheshire district.^[6]

Notes

David was reportedly in the Liverpool Scottish Regiment during WWI. Apparently after a battle David went out as a stretcher party to collect casualties of both sides. David's party found two wounded Germans a Soldier and an Officer. The soldier was more wounded so they loaded him on the stretcher first. The officer saw this and begged them to take him, David's party explained that they would come straight back for the officer, however the officer offered them money and other rewards for treating him first, which the stretcher party refused.

As the party were carrying the wounded soldier back to the Regimental aid post the wounded German officer shot David Henderson in the leg.

David was sent back to the UK, and after initial treatment was transported by train to Liverpool. As the train crossed a bridge (most likely over the River Mersey between Runcorn and Widnes) David wrapped a note to his mother around a shilling and threw it over the bridge. Apparently the note was delivered safely, and David made a full recovery.
