Thank you, Virginia, I greatly appreciate you reaching out to me. This website and subject is no simple matter. I will, no doubt, need to spend some time familiarizing myself with both and see where it takes me. I did have my Y DNA done a few years ago by Family Tree. Perhaps that would be a good place to start. Is there a way to merge that file? Additionally, as I sense that the field of genealogy has undoubtedly grown since last I was here, Is there a bigger, better, newer DNA test you might recommend for me to fast-forward this process?
Thanks for the questions and here is what I recommend: First, you are still a Guest; if you will look for the Upgrade link on your profile or navigation page and click on it and follow the prompts, you will become a FamilyMember and then a WikiGenealogist. (All free). Once you upgrade, a greeter will post a message to your profile page with a link that contains a lot of useful information on using WikiTree. Then, you can begin adding your ancestors to the tree.
As for DNA, that is a personal preference and WikiTree does not store DNA data. On the top right of your profile page (and most other pages) click on the Add button; the first item is DNA. Click on that and just add the company where you tested and the kind of test - in your case Y-DNA and the markers - like YDNA-37 or 69 or 111. I would just begin with these steps and get some of your ancestors added to the tree and then go from there.
If you have any questions about WikiTree, just click the option to reply to this message and let me know how I can help.
