Biography

At 12 years of age he began an apprenticeship as a plumber and when he finished, he had a job waiting for him in Liverpool, England as foreman of a large plumbing firm. In 1873 he moved to New York and in 1876 did all the plumbing for Wellesley College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1884 he moved to Los Angeles and started a plumbing business on Main and 3rd streets. In addition to doing the plumbing for a several well known residences, he also worked on the Long Beach and Monrovia Hotels as well as Keller's Hotel in Santa Monica. Henderson also patended the Automatic Closet System Valve and the Automatic Glass Sprinkler System. He was married Agnes Cockburn in Scotland and they had twelve children.
