When James Rome Henderson was born in 1884, his father, James, was 31 and his mother, Tennessee, was 35.

In the 1900 census, James (age 17) was the single son of James Henderson in Cherokee Township (north part), Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States.^[1]

James married Lorena Octavia Mabry (born about July 11, 1881). Their daughter was Leslie Octavia Beatrice Henderson (1903–1976). He had five sons and four daughters with Lorena Octavia Robinson

In the 1910 census, James (age 26) was the married head of household in Cherokee, Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States.^[2]

James died in 1913 in Chesnee, Spartanburg, United States, aged 28. He was beaten on side of road and only lived a few days after. He was hit with a shotgun and two men were named and brought to trail.
