Biography

I currently live in Shelton, Ct. I'm interested in becoming a member of DAR. I started researching my family tree in 2006 when my grandmother left behind a suitcase full of family history, photographs and newspaper clippings. Researching family history is definitely addicting and challenging and the information I find is what drives me to continue.

War Veterans in the Family

Oscar Glenn Hubbard: Hubbard-4367 The President of the United States of America authorized by executive order, February 4, 1944 has awarded THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL to Corporal (then private) Oscar G. Hubbard 35 921 575, Infantry For MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT in ground operations against the enemy given by the hands of Washington on May 13th, 1955.

Oscar Grove Hubbard: Hubbard-4371 Commander Oscar Hubbard. ---Well known Civil War Veteran Mr. Hubbard enlisted early in the Civil war in the 28th NY infantry, receiving honorable discharge after serving his country in a faithful manner in the inter-sectional struggle. He came to Albion in 1866 and had made his home here since. When EW Hollingsworth Post of the G.A.R. was organized in Albion, Mr. Hubbard was one of the charter members. He always took an active interest in the work of the post and had served the organization in nearly every office, from commander down. At the time of his death, he was holding the office of trustee. Mr. Hubbard was enlisted at Medina, NY 11/15/1861, Private in Co.D. Mustered out, 6/2/1863. Mr. Hubbard first enlisted in Adrian, Mich in July 1861 but was mustered on account of his youthful appearance. Returning to Medina he procured the written consent of his mother and joined the 28th. Is a member and past commander of EW Hollingsworth Post, G.A.R., Albion, Mich. His grandfather fought and died in the Battle of Bennington during the Revolutionary WAR (8/16/1777). BRICK WALLS: I am confused with a news clipping I have for Oscar Grove Hubbard mentioning his grandfather fought and died in the Revolutionary War 8/16/1777. I have his grandfather listed as Amos Hubbard, no records anywhere for him or his second wife Phebe.

George Samuel Hubbard: Hubbard-2687 Served in French and Indian War as Lieutenant. Receiving from King George II his commission 10/25/1728. He was at the capture of Quebec. Relationship Summary This trail tells us that George is the seventh great grandfather of Jenifer.

Captain George Stocking: Stocking-78 He was commissioned captain of the militia in 1752, and responded to the "Lexington Alarm" 1775 as a member of Capt. Eleazer Hubbard's company which marched from Glastonbury. Henderson, Jenifer Lynn's great great great great great great grandfather is Stocking, CPT George, II. Categories: American Revolution Veterans.

Sergeant George Stocking: Stocking-111 Son of Captain George Stocking was a Sergeant in Revolutionary War in the Lexington Alarm and served under Capt. Eleazer Hubbard's company. His sons George and Hezekia, both served at the same time, the latter from May 4 to Dec 10 1775. George and these two sons and son Nathaniel all died in a powder mill that exploded in Glastonbury where they were making ammunition for the govt Aug 23, 1777. George has a service record in the CT Men in the Rev and served under Capt Eleazar Hubbard and married Eunice Cobb. Categories: American Revolution Veterans. This trail tells us that George is the ninth great grandfather of Jenifer.

Eunice Cobb Stocking: Cobb-198 Sergeant George Stocking's wife who brought gunpowder to Washington's Army in Boston by horseback from her powder mill. After the powder mill was burned down, she had it rebuilt to continue producing gunpowder. Categories: American Revolution Veterans.

George Hubbard of Middletown: Hubbard-223 George and his wife Elizabeth Watts are ancestors of the famous Elbert Green Hubbard of the Roycroft movement and writer of "Message to Garcia" and other political writings, who died aboard the Lusitania in 1915 with his 2nd wife Alice Moore. This George is known as George Hubbard of Middletown, Middlesex, CT. This George and his wife Elizabeth also came from England and was born in 1601. Elizabeth was born in 1618. Categories: Puritan Great Migration | Founders of Hartford. This trail tells us that George is the ninth great grandfather of Jenifer.

Eli Smith: Smith-110904 Eli served in the Civil War in Co. A, 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

I am told John Jacob Smith signed the Declaration of Independence (I only see a John Smith from Penn who signed) is a relative from my maternal grandparents side. I have Eli Smiths father named Jacob Smith from Pennsylvania but hitting a brick wall for whom his parents are.

Fascinating information - I am not quite done tracing my Hubbard family, but maybe we are related! I just found this old book on-line and enjoying the stories - "One Thousand Years of Hubbard History" https://ia800204.us.archive.org/24/items/onethousandyears00daye/onethousandyears00daye.pdf
