Biography
Jonathan was born about 1822 in Missouri.[1] He was the son of James Hemby, probably by an unknown first wife (the entry for James's wife in the 1850 Census, as well as her entry in 1860, give her birth date as c.1815, so she cannot have been Jonathan's mother).[2]
He was murdered on February 15, 1862. He, his brother James E. Hemby, and three brothers of the Howard family, were lynched following an illegal trial for opposing the secession of Texas to join the Confederacy.[3]
