She married Gideon S. Lowe on 22 January 1873 at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Key West in a ceremony performed by J. B. Allard, Pastor of St. Mary’s.[2]

Celeste died 19 July 1903 in Key West,[3] and she is buried in the Pitcher Plot in the City Cemetery.[4]

  1. Bahamas Registrar General's Office, Births, 1854–1855, Green Turtle Cay Division of the District of Abaco, p. 126, no. 7, female child of Jacob Hayman and Patience Griffin, 18 December 1854; digital image, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-22639-49682-22?cc=1922411 : accessed February 2015). Although she is not named in this birth record, the balance of evidence suggests that this child was indeed Celeste, though there is contradictory evidence. Her baptismal record states that she was born 28 November 1853; see, Parish Register of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, Key West, Baptisms, 1851–1882, photocopy at the Monroe County Public Library, Key West, Florida. Her baptismal record identifies her parents as Jacob Hayman and Patience. However, this record was created when she was sixteen years old. She was said to be three years and six months when her family arrived in New York in July 1858, which is consistent with a birth in December 1854; see Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at New York, New York, 1820–1897, microfilm publication M237 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Service, [date?]), roll 186, Schooner Maxson Rogers, 26 July 1858, line 5, Celestia Hayman; digital image, Ancestry.com (http://interactive.ancestry.com/7488/NYM237_186-0115/3479734?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.com%2f%2fcgi-bin%2fsse.dll%3fdb%3dnypl%26h%3d3479734%26ti%3d0%26indiv%3dtry%26gss%3dpt%26ssrc%3dpt_t37835005_p19162058909_kpidz0q3d19162058909z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgplz0q3dpid&ssrc=pt_t37835005_p19162058909_kpidz0q3d19162058909z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgplz0q3dpid&backlabel=ReturnRecord : accessed February 2015). The census taker recorded Celeste's birth date as December 1856 in the 1900 census. The year is off, but not as badly as the baptismal record would make it, and the months match.
