Herbert joined the Australian Infantry Force on 7 Feb 1916[3] to 28 June 1919. Awarded Military Medal 1914-1918. His next of kin on enlistment was: William Hardwicke, Lindrum Street, Toowoomba, Queensland. His unit was: 5th Light Horse Regiment, 7th Reinforcement. His rank was Private. His Regimental Number was: 1113. Returned to Australia 28 June 1919. [4]
Herbert married Evelena May Burdet 2 March 1921 Mowbray, Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia and they had four children
Herbert Charles Hardwick died on 8 Apr 1984 in Gordonvale, Queensland and was buried in the Gordonvale Cemetery, Gordonvale, Queensland. [5]
