Herbert was born in 1895. He was the son of William Hardwick and Eliza Thompson. Christening 15 Mar 1896 Essex, England, United Kingdom.[1]

Albert, his parents and siblings were Assisted Immigrates from England on the ship Norseman and arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on 5 August 1910. [2]

Herbert joined the Australian Infantry Force on 7 Feb 1916[3] to 28 June 1919. Awarded Military Medal 1914-1918. His next of kin on enlistment was: William Hardwicke, Lindrum Street, Toowoomba, Queensland. His unit was: 5th Light Horse Regiment, 7th Reinforcement. His rank was Private. His Regimental Number was: 1113. Returned to Australia 28 June 1919. [4]
