Biography

Aubrey E. Hanks was born on April 14, 1896^[1] in Adkins, Van Buren, Arkansas.^[2] He was the son of Elmus L. Hanks and Minnie May Smith. At age 4, he was in his parent's home in White Oak Twp., Van Buren county, Arkansas.^[3] By 1910, the family had moved on to Hardeman County, Texas. His Grandfather Mathew Hanks-83 was living with his parents, and Sister, Amie F-11.^[4]

He married Mattie Mae Meador in about 1913 when he was 17 years old. they had 11 children.

He registered for the Draft for World War I in Floyd County, Texas on June 5, 1917. He was married with one child at the time, working as a machinest in Lockney, Texas. He was of Medium build, Stout, with brown hair and gray eyes.^[2]

He worked as a Candy maker in a Candy Factory, at age 20, in Johnson County, Texas, in 1920.^[11] Their first born Aubrey Jr. had just been born. He was a Machinest in 1927 when John was born. He was a Salesman for an Automobile Parts store in 1930, in Floydada, Floyd County, Texas. A this time Mae was taking care of the home and 8 of their children.^[12] His mother Mammie-53 was living with them.

They moved to Amarillo Texas by 1935, and then on to Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico by 1940, where they were living in San Jose, a suburb of Albuquerque. He was working as a Truck Driver halling Stock at this time. Grace-15, Glen-12, Glenna-11, Paul-9, Betty-5, and Billy-3 were in the home.^[13][14]

His wife Mattie ‘Mae’ passed away on December 10, 1953, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 59. They had been married 40 years.

Aubrey married Mary ‘Margaret’ (Lamroux), Shacklette in Bernalillo, New Mexico, on July 17, 1954, when he was 58 years old.^[15]

He died on August 20, 1983, in Albuquerque, New Mexico,^[16] when he was 87 years old. HIs body was cremated and ashes buried in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Albuquerque.
