Mary Hanham was born in 1778, daughter of John Hanham and Ann Rawlins. ^[1] She died in 1835. ^[2]

The family surname is also recorded around this time as Hannam, and even Hammond

Research notes

The Jane Gibson ^[4] previously thought to be the mother of the Jane Gibson who married Simon Andrews, is hereby now Mary Hanham See this blog post for the journey that determined this via research and DNA.

This was the only evidence for Jane's existence, apart from a daughter, was a name on the death certificate of her daughter Jane.

Daughter Jane's death and marriage certificates do not name her father, and no baptism had then been found, nor any evidence of a likely GIBSON family in Martock and environs.

One day we had hopes that some pattern will emerge from DNA testing to give us some hints, which day has since arrived.

I admit to being rather suspicious about the accuracy of this single source for Jane's name! Henderson-2297 15:44, 14 December 2016 (EST)

Mary is mtDNA haplogroup J2a1a1.

Her maternal mitochondrial DNA signature has been confirmed by matching tests from direct maternal descendants from daughters Ann and Jane.
