Letitia Maxwell Hamilton was born around 1836 in the Village of Greenfields, south of the Town of Newry, standing on the Clanrye river, in County Armagh, southwest of the City of Belfast, in the Province of Ulster, Northern Ireland. She is the daughter of Thomas Lawrence Hamilton and Mary Anne McCamley. Around December 1853, the Hamilton family boarded the vessel the "Indian Queen" at the Port of Liverpool, on the River Mersey, Lancashire, England. Thomas (59) and Mary Ann (50) travelled with children Sarah (20), Letitia (15) and Thomas (13) and they were emigrating to the Colony of Victoria, Australia, arriving there on 1 April 1954 at Hobson's Bay, Port of Melbourne, Colony of Victoria, Australia. Letitia, who was 15, met her future husband, Henry (Pinniger) (27), also on board the Indian Queen[1].
Barely a year later, on the 23 August 1855, Letitia married Henry Pinniger at St. John's Church, in the City of Melbourne, Colony of Victoria, Australia. Henry (25) was a Farmer living at Elizabeth Street and Letitia (19) lived in Great Lonsdale Street. The Officiating Minister, James (Darling) married them in the presence of Alexander (McWhinney) and Thomas Lawrence (Hamilton)[2]. The couple had nine (9) children during their union.
After they were married, Henry and Letitia initially lived in the gold mining Town of Ballarat, in the Central Highlands, 110 km (68 mi) northwest of the capital City of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, Australia. Henry had started work at the local gaol there. After several years of living there, the Pinniger family moved to the goldmining Town of Ararat, on the eastern slopes of the Ararat Hills and Cemetery Creek valley, about 198 kilometres (120 mi) west of the Capital City of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, Australia. Then, in 1884 Henry was promoted and so the family moved to their new home at "Cherhill" in Newtown, Town of Geelong, Colony of Victoria, Australia.
After Henry's death in 1906, Letitia moved back to the City of Melbourne, around the 2 December 1907, settling down at "Cherhill", 10 Mangarra Road, in the suburb of Canterbury, Camberwell[5]. It appeared as if Letitia settled down in Camberwell because she lived with daughter, Florence Matilda (Pinniger) there in 1931[6]. At the age of 97, Letitia passed away, on the 27 December 1933, at her home in 10 Mangarra Road, East Camberwell, City of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Her death was certified to be caused by Old Age and Broncho-Pneumonia over 8 days[7]. Her burial took place on the 28 December 1933 in the Church of England portion, grave number 2020 at the Box Hill Cemetery, 395 Middleborough Road, Box Hill, White Horse City, in the City of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia[8]. The inscription on the headstone reads as follows:--To The Memory Of ANNIE Eldest Daughter of HENRY & LETITIA PINNIGER Who Died 22nd February 1887. Thy Will Be Done.
