John Hamilton was born on 18 January 1920 in Cowra, New South Wales, Australia ^[1], the son of John Hamilton and Mary Spark and the brother of Harold Hamilton and George Hamilton.

He married Ceinwyn Annie Powell (1923–1985) on 28 November 1942 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia ^[2] and they had at least on son, John Hamilton (1946–1972).

John died on 27 July 1986 when aged 66 years old in Heckenberg, New South Wales, Australia ^[3].
