Biography

George was born in 1877. He is the son of George Hamilton and Louisa Clemens.

Sir Collingwood George Clements Hamilton, 1st Bt. was born on 1 November 1877.1 He was the son of Venerable George Hans Hamilton and Lady Louisa Frances Clements. He married Eleanor Christadora Simon, daughter of Henry Simon and Emily Stoehr, on 8 May 1906. He died on 12 January 1947 at age 69.1 Sir Collingwood George Clements Hamilton, 1st Bt. usually went by his middle name of George. He was an electrical engineer. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Altrincham between 1913 and 1923. He gained the rank of Major in the Queen's Westminster Rifles. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cheshire. He was Controller of Enrolment, National Service in 1916. He fought in the First World War in 1917, with the Royal Flying Corps. He was Controller of Contract Claims, Ministry of Munitions in 1918. He was appointed Knight in 1922. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Ilford between 1928 and 1937. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Suffolk. He was created 1st Baronet Hamilton, of Ilford, co. Essex [U.K.] on 10 June 1937.
