James Hamilton was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

James Hamilton, 2nd Duke of Abercorn, Companion of the Bath, Knight of the Garter, Member of the Privy Council, was born in 1838 in Sussex, England. [1]

He studied at Christ Church (University of Oxford), St Aldate's, Oxford, England, where he obtained an M.A. He entered the United Kingdom Parliament in 1866 and was the Member for County Donegal, Ireland, until 1880.

He married Lady Mary Anna Curzon-Howe, daughter of the first Earl Howe, in 1869 in St George Hanover Square, London (in the county of Middlesex), England. [2]

Upon his father´s death in 1885, he succeeded him as the second Duke of Abercorn and became the Lord Lieutenant of County Donegal. He became a Knight of the Garter in 1892. The duke's other titles included Knight of the Dannebrog Order, Knight of St Anne of Russia, Knight of the Iron Crown of Austria. He served as Lord of the Bedchamber to the Prince of Wales from 1866 to 1885 and as groom of the stole to Queen Victoria from 1886.

In 1890 the Duke was said to be residing at Green Street near Grosvenor Square in London, as well as at a number of private clubs in London and in Dublin (Ireland). He had residency at: Baron's Court in Tyrone, Ireland; Duddingstone House near Edinburgh, Scotland; and Mothecombe House in Ivy bridge near Plymouth, Devon, England.

He passed away in 1913 in London, England, aged 74. [3]
