Biography

Jane Hall was born in London about 1802.

On 6 February 1826, Jane married John Richardson. The marriage, by banns, took place at St Peter's in Leeds, Yorkshire.[1] The original register identified the groom as a cloth dresser.[2]

The UK censuses from 1841 to 1871 all recorded John and Jane living in Yorkshire with various of their children. In 1841 and 1851, they lived at Tingley Bar, West Ardsley; in 1861, at 12 South Ridge Terrace, Holbeck, Leeds; and in 1871, at 2 Richardson Buildings, Hunslet, Leeds.[3]

Hi John,

Jane's maiden surname was Hall. I've confirmed it with the birth registrations of several of the children. Please change her last name at birth from unknown to Hall. I'm still trying to locate the marriage. There were two possibilities.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikitree and helping to reduce our unknowns.

Sincerely, Raewyn.

Thank you very much for your work in discovering this, Raewyn! I'll have a quick look at the GRO references then change the birth name very soon. —Jim

You're welcome. I did find the marriage, but the original image is behind the paywall subscription website of Ancestry.com I'm sure Yorkshire records office holds it, but the parish is St Peter, so hopefully there's enough info for you. The good thing was it mentioned John's occupation and that matches the 1851 census reference., although I suspect that the transcript is incomplete and split into two pages as there may be children missing from it. But here's the census with John and Jane and their older children on it: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SPM5-CS3

Thanks again Raewyn! You have found lots of new information. John and Jane's son Enoch was married later on in the District Chapelry of St Peter's, County of York, which sounds like the same church.

I've changed Jane's birth name from Unknown to Hall. I really appreciate your work on this.

You're welcome. I'm glad it also matches up with subsequent marriages. I'm guessing a few of the family members have records there.
