Biography

MARTHA HALL, b. at Bradford, 5 Nov 1722 daughter of Richard Hall and Mehitable Barker ; d. at Harvard, 7 May 1754;[1] m. at Harvard, 28 May 1744, SIMEON FARNSWORTH, b. at Groton, 12 Jul 1718 son of Jonathan and Ruth (Shattuck) Farnsworth; Simeon d. at Washington, NH, 21 Mar 1805. Simeon married second Lucy Atherton.

Martha and Simeon resided in Harvard. Their son Simeon was a first settler in Washington, New Hampshire and Simeon, Sr. and most of the other children settled in Washington.[2] On 18 September 1777, Simeon Farnsworth with his wife Lucy of Harvard sold the homestead farm in Harvard to Peleg Crocker for payment of £266.13.4.[3] Simeon and Lucy went then to Washington where they lived near Millen Pond about one-half mile from Washington Centre.[4]

On 20 December 1779 (recorded 18 June 1788), Simeon Farnsworth of Washington sold to Joseph Farnsworth of Washington 60 acres in Washington for payment of £30. In May 1781, Simeon sold land to his son Manasseh, on 10 August 1786 to son David, and on 15 April 1786 to son Samuel.[5]

Martha and Simeon were parents of six children born at Harvard. Simeon had nine children with his second wife Lucy Atherton (Relief, Samuel, Manasseh, David, Daniel, Reuben, Sarah, Nancy, Patty).

ii SIMEON FARNSWORTH, b. 10 Sep 1746; d. at Washington, NH, 27 Jan 1791; m. about 1773, ESTHER ELLENWOOD, likely b. at Beverly, 1745 daughter of Ebenezer and Esther (Hibbard) Ellenwood; Esther d. at Washington, 27 Oct 1811.

iii SAMUEL FARNSWORTH, b. 9 Mar 1747/8; d. 17 Apr 1756.

iv MARTHA FARNSWORTH, b. 20 Aug 1750; d. at Harvard, 10 Mar 1776; m. at Harvard, 16 Nov 1769, NATHANIEL WHITTEMORE, b. at Concord, MA, 4 Jul 1741 son of Nathaniel and Abigail (-) Whittemore; Nathaniel d. at Lancaster, 3 Jan 1822. Nathaniel married second Lydia Stone and married third Sarah Stone.

v LUCY FARNSWORTH, b. 3 May 1752; d. at Washington, NH, 26 Feb 1825; m. 1st at Harvard, 20 Oct 1772, ABNER SAMPSON, baptized at Harvard, 27 Feb 1744 son of John and Martha (Sawyer) Sampson; Abner d. at Washington, 8 Oct 1797. Lucy m. 2nd 28 Nov 1799, SAMUEL HURD (widower of Lydia Wilcox), b. at Killingworth, CT, 1 Nov 1736 son of Elnathan and Thankful (Nettleton) Hurd; Samuel d. at Newport, NH, 14 Oct 1810.
