Samuel was born in 1878. He was the son of Walter Haden and Sallie Davis. He was named for his paternal grandfather and mother's family. His daughter wrote the family book, Life in Fife, which has many stories about Samuel's children and their recollections of him and growing up in rural Virginia. Samuel passed away in 1947.
Side Note: A number of Samuel's brothers contracted TB. As a result, Samuel worried about giving it to his wife (and children). The Haden family seemed to think that Hugh, the first brother to come down with the illness, got it from being out in rainy weather.
