Pierre was born about 1639 in France though the exact location and parents are currently unknown. Pierre arrived in Acadia around 1668. [citation needed] .
Pierre (28) married Catherine Thériot (17) (born in 1650 in Port-Royal, Acadie; daughter of Jean Thériot and Perrine Rau) in 1668 in Port Royal, Acadie. Their known children were:[1]
Over the years, the family lived in Port Royal, acquiring more land and animals. In 1671 Pierre had established himself as a "Laboureur" [plowman], and their first child was present.[2]
They aren't listed in 1678.
In 1686, at Port Royal, Pierre Guilbault [sic], aged 47, was living with his wife, Catherine TERRIOT [sic], aged 33, and all of their seven children: Marguerite, aged 18, Jeanne, aged 16, Hugues, aged 13, Isabelle, aged 11, Charles, aged 9, Marie, aged 4, and Jeanne, aged 1. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 8 arpents of cultivable land with 8 cattle, 6 sheep, and 8 hogs.[3]
The older children started fledging from the family home with Marguerite and Jeanne married by 1693.
In 1693, at Port Royal, Pierre GUILBAUT [sic], aged 54, was living with his wife, Catherine TERIOT [sic], aged 39, and their four children: Hugues, aged 19, Charles, aged 15, Marie, aged 10, and Jeanne, aged 8. The family owned 2 guns and was living on 12 arpents of cultivable land with 18 cattle, 25 sheep, and 10 pigs.[4]
It had been discovered that the Acadian lands were especially conducive to growing fruit trees and by 1698 Pierre had 150 of them on his 26 arpents.[5]. The last few years of his life, Pierre, even as an old man, had children at home, though he worked fewer acres, probably having given some to his married son Charles who lived next door in 1701.[6][7] The year he died, Pierre left his wife and 3 children at the family farm.[8]
Pierre died 17 Nov 1703, and was buried the following day in Port-Royal, Acadia, officiating priest Felix Pain of Port-Royal.[9][10]
ATTENTION!! There are two Pierre Guilbaut, Guilbault, Guilbeau 's born around or after 1639. One settled in Acadie and married Catherine TERRIOT, daughter of Jean & Perrine BOURG; another in the Quebec area and he married 2 times -(Louise Sénécal and Françoise Leblanc). It appears one merge had already taken place between these two profiles. The Acadian Pierre's parents are as yet unknown, I am removing them from this profile and removing Catherine TERRIOT from the Quebecois Pierre.
Removed St-Barthelemi, La Rochelle, France son of Francois Guilbault and Marie Pignon who are not his parents.
When did Pierre Guilbeau arrive in Acadie?
Historian André-Carl Vachon believes that Pierre Guilbeau was probably one of three men who were hired to work in Acadie in 1661 (no contract was found) and embarked on the ship La Marguerite de Brouage (contract by notary Moreau, 12 March 1661). [11]
From Diane Bilodeau in email to Gisèle Cormier March 2024:
Je pense qu'il pourrait être celui-ci, donc techniquement arrivé entre le Traité de Breda, juillet 1667 et 1668:
