the exact date from family trees of 17 Jul 1818 is corroborated by his age in the 1851/2 census Henderson-2297 BUT:

the place of Creich, Fife for this date^[2] appears to be from the Birth/Baptism entry for a William Grieve, son of a James Grieve and Helen Maxwel (Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950 FHL Film Number: 1040099, indexed on Ancestry) and seems unlikely by either place or Scottish naming pattern
