Sarah was born in 1824 in Argyll, Scotland. She was the daughter of Robert Greenlees and Mary Mitchell. [1][2]

She came to the US with her family in 1850. [3]

They settled in Harlem Township, Winnebago, County Illinois, [4] where they were part of the Scottish settlement in Argyll Illinois

She married Neil McMichael in 1859. [5]

They farmed in Harlem Township. [6][7][8]

In 1910 they were living with their son Robert in Rockford. [9]

Sarah passed away in 1912.

Obituary

Mrs. Neil M'Michael Passes Away Sunday At Her Home On Oxford Street Mrs. Neil McMichael passed away at her home, 2006 Oxford Street, Sunday morning at 9 o'clock. Infirmities incidental to old age caused her death.

Mrs. McMichael before her marriage was Sarah Greenlee. She was born at Campbeltown, Argyleshire, Scotland, Jan. 28, 1825, her age being 70. She came to America with her parents in 1850 and settled near Argyle this county.

She was married to Neil McMichael Feb. 17, 1859.

To mourn her she leaves two children, Robert and Agnes. Mr. McMichael passed away last January. Mrs. McMichael was the oldest of a family of 12 children, six of whom are still living. They are Mrs. J. J. Smith of Winnebago, Mrs. D. S. Kelly, of Caledonia; Hugh Greenlee of Rockford, and James, Thomas and William Greenlee of Caledonia.

Mrs. McMichael was united with the Presbyterian church in her girlhood and for 62 years was a member of the Willow Creek church, Argyle. Mrs. McMichael was a woman possessed of a well-balanced mind and was very highly respected by all who knew her.

The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home. Rev. M. L. Pearson of Argyle and Rev. D. E. Williamson of Rockford officiating. Interment at the West Side cemetery.[10]
