Biography

Elizabeth was baptised on 29 December 1828 in Halkirk, Caithness, Scotland. She was the daughter of William Gray and Janet McLeod.^[1]

In 1841 Elizabeth (age about 12) was living in , Par. of Reay, Caithness, Scotland. Note: GRAY: William 40 farmer; Jane 32; Elizabeth 12; William 9; Margret 7; Christian 6; SUTHERLAND: Alexr 16 male servant. (all b CAI)^[2]

When Elizabeth was 21 she married William McKay on 21 June 1850 in Reay, Caithness, Scotland. The couple had 11 children: Margaret MacKay, Sinclair McKay, Johan McKay, Barbara McKay, William McKay, Donald McKay, Jane McKay, William McKay, Anne McKay, Betsy Gray McKay and Alexanderina McKay.^[3]
