Biography

Born in South Carolina in February 1813.^[1] It's thought that he was the son of Stephen Gray and Elizabeth "Betsy" Rush.^[2] He married Sophia McClure on May 7, 1834 in Macon County, North Carolina.^[3] It's thought that these were their children:

4. Adaline A. Gray (abt.1842-)
5. Isabella Rebecca Gray (abt.1844-)

William passed away on March of 1860 at the age of 47 from pneumonia. He had been living in the Tennessee Valley of Macon County, North Carolina.^[1] Because he died so suddenly, at a rather young age, William did not have a will. Sophia petitioned the court, and his accounts were finalized in August 26, 1878, eighteen years after his death. The children were not mentioned in the accounting.^[5]
