Biography

Born Greenbrier Co, VA. (now Summers Co, WV).

From David Graham's History of the Graham Family (1899) -- "Next in order of the children of James Graham comes his fifth son, Samuel. Samuel married Sallie Jarrett, daughter of David Jarrett (this David Jarrett being the father of the David Jarrett that married Jane Graham), about the year 1808 and settled on the Greenbrier river on the farm owned and occupied by Joseph Nowlan. This land was entered and patented by James Graham, Sr., about the year 1785. To Samuel Graham were born five children: James Madison, the oldest; Nancy; Betsy; David and Susan."

No census records in Greenbrier Co 1790-1810. Samuel is dead by 1820 so does not appear in census records then either.

1811, Oct 8: Land indenture of Samuel and Sarah Graham of Kanawha Co to David Jarrett of Kanawha for $1 sell their rights and claim as heirs of David Jarret Senior dec'd on Witchers Creek and Kanawha River down to land of Samuel Shrewsbury. Part of Shadrach Harrison's entry. (Samuel and Sally sign names). Kanawha Co Deed Bk C:513.

Samuel Graham b. 1780 d.March 1819 was drowned while on horse back crossing Greenbrier river Wife Sallie Jarrett remarried to Benjamin Blaine ca 1835-moved to TN.
