He was admitted as Burgess of Dundee, on 22 September 1600, the same day as his elder brother John [3]

He joined his brother's horse regiment, was promoted as cornet on 21 February 1684, his commission was renewed on 30 March 1685. [2] He was with his brother John at Killiecrankie and continued in arms after the Battle, until he was briefly imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle ,released about 6 December 1689 and consequently outlawed in 1692. He is mentioned among the Scottish Officers in France who were preparing to embark at Dunkirk in May 1692. He retired to the Court of St Germains and in 1692 was invested with the Order of the Thistle [5]

He succeeded his brother John Graham after the death of his infant nephew
