Note

Sarah attended the British School in Romsey and in 1856 was top of the list of Queen's Scholars in the Christmas Examination. In 1857 she attended the Borough Road Teacher Training College run by the British and Foreign Schools Society. (BFSS). At the end of the first year she obtained a First Class Certificate and was 6th on the list.[5]

She overlapped in 1857 with her future husband Henry Francis Uren. It appears she only took a one year course, which was common for women who were to become infant teachers. Her application form is not in the records.

In 1858 She was writing for The Christian World. By 1859 she was living in Northampton. In 1860 she was writing for the Sunday School Times.

Her grandson Reg Euren remembered Grove House as being very large with a walled garden, the house being sparsely furnished. There was a large vinery at the rear of the house. The household consisted of his grandparents, a housekeeper and a maid. He recounted that his grandmother was an invalid for the last years of her life, confined to her bedroom. She was very intelligent with a keen interest in literature. In earlier days she had been a friend of Marianne Farningham and for some 50 years wrote a weekly article for the Sunday School Times until her death in 1922. This was in spite of her only contact with the outside world being her husband, a few visitors newspapers and books.
