Robert Glasgow lived in Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand.

Robert was born about 1830. [1] He was the son of William Glasgow, and lived at Montober, Kildress, County Tyrone as of 1857.[2] His mother was called Mary.[3]

On 15 Sep 1857 at the Brigh Presbyterian Meeting House (parish Ballyclog, Co. Tyrone), he married Ann Sloan of Annaghone, daughter of John Sloan, farmer. Witnessed by David Glasgow and John Sloan. [2]

They emigrated to New Zealand as Assisted Immigrants on the Empress arriving at Auckland on 14 May 1865. Passengers: "Robert, Ann, William, Samuel & Sarah Glasgow". [4]

Robert purchased a farm at Patumahoe and worked there for a number of years. [5] The farm was called "Woodgrove", near "The Springs". [6]

He passed away 5 Aug 1914 age 84. at Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand. [7] [8] He is buried at Waikumete Cemetery. [9]

As of 1931 his surviving children were recorded as: William (Tuakau), Joseph (Kohekohe), Robert (Waimauku), Walter (Henderson), Mrs. James Hunter (Patumahoe), Mrs Willoughby (Avondale). [5]

Research Notes

Marriage record matched as their daughter Sarah Ann b. 1864 has a matching NZ death record 1865 age 1; and middle name Sloane occurs in their daughter Lillian.

The will mentions wife Nancy Ann and Robert's daughter Gertrude Maud. A memoriam notice appeared in the newspaper "Inserted by Nancy M Glasgow and Gertie". (Maybe the "M" is an audio error for "Ann").

Gertie was not listed as a child in the 1931 news clipping and does not seem to be in NZ BDM Births. Based on her death 1952/19409 age 66 and an 1892 school record, she seems to have been born around 1885. (Mary would have been 51). So perhaps she was illegitimate or adopted (although Nancy testifies in the will that she was Robert's daughter).
