Price Gibson was the fifth child and second son of William C. Gibson and Mary Frances Floyd. He was killed around 1894 when a logging wagon hauling lumber he was driving overturned, and he was crushed to death.[1] According to direct descendants of his son Ishmael, this accident happened "over near Onton" in Webster Co., KY. A search of the Webster County genealogy records has failed to reveal a place of burial. Possibly this was in Webster County, although a very likely alternative is the Gibson Family Cemetery located 2 miles east south east of Corydon. His father, mother, grandparents and some siblings are buried there.
Price left his widow with four children under ten.
Price was born around 1862, during the Civil War. At that time his father would have been in his mid-30s and a likely candidate for service in the war.
His name is often mistaken as "Porter", but first-hand knowledge from direct descendants state this is wrong and that his name was "Price".[2] A death certificate confirming this is not available given his year of death.
Price was enumerated as William P. Gibson, age 8, with his parents and four siblings on 12 Aug 1870 in Cairo, Henderson Co., KY.[3]
Price was enumerated as William P. Gibson, age 8, with his parents and four siblings on 26 Jun 1880 in Corydon District #2, Henderson Co., KY. [4]
His burial place is unknown. A search (circa 2010) of the Webster Co. library cemetery sources revealed no records. It is possible he was buried where he died in Onton, KY. A more likely place is the Gibson Family Cemetery 2 miles ESE of Corydon, where his father and grandfather were buried, but there is no marker for him there.
