Biography

Peter was born in Halbeath, Fife in 1834. He was the son of John Gibson and Christian Inglis.

He married Ellen Ramsey 2 Nov 1855 in Dunfermline, Fife. The following year they embarked for Australia, arriving in Geelong 12 Nov 1856 on the ship "Nugget" along with his brother John and his wife May. Peter and John were bound to employment at Young Bros in Barrabool Hills.

• John Gibson born in Chilwell 1860 [d.1934]

Matching death record for Peter Gibson was not found. Australian tax records for 1899 show John Peter Gibson, clerk, tenant at a property belonging to Mrs. Ellen Gibson in South Melbourne. The property being in her name suggests that she was a widow at this time. The previous year John had been living on his own in the town of Hawthorne. For this reason Peter's death is set as approx. 1899 in this profile until more definitive evidence is found.
